Transfer News: Chelsea plan to lure Romelu Lukaku by offering bloated weekly wages
According to transfer news from the Express, Chelsea are planning to double the weekly wages that Romelu Lukaku receives at Inter Milan in order to land the striker.
The Blues are keen to land the Inter hitman after his goal-scoring exploits led I Nerazzurri to their first Scudetto in 11 years. But they have already had an offer of £88million plus Marcos Alonso rejected by the Italian side.
And the report mentions that Chelsea are now thinking of offering Lukaku £12.8million in yearly salary, which translates to roughly £250,000-a-week and is also more than what the Belgian earned at Manchester United before his move to Italy.
Lukaku is believed to have snubbed every offer he has listened from the 2021 UEFA Champions League winners. But while he shares a close relationship with new boss Simone Inzaghi, the decision to leave Inter will possibly come down to him. (h/t Express)
Chelsea refuse to give up Lukaku chase
The Belgium international has spent three years at Stamford Bridge in the past. His time in Lonon, however, was forgetful and the Blues opted to sell him for £28million to Everton.
With Inter now said to be demanding more than £105million, Chelsea would undoubtedly be ruing the day that they decided to part ways with the former Anderlecht frontman.
But it is no use crying over spilt milk now, and Thomas Tuchel should ensure that Chelsea get in a quality striker to compete with Timo Werner. A player like Lukaku would significantly bolster the club’s options up front.
