Transfer News: Chelsea in pole position to land Ilaix Moriba
According to transfer news from Mundo Deportivo (h/t Express), Chelsea are now leading the race to sign Ilaix Moriba. There were claims that the Barcelona youngster was in London over the weekend. While RB Leipzig were also interested, their offer has been rejected meaning that Chelsea are now ahead of the German outfit.
Barcelona’s problems don’t seem to go away. While the club still comes to terms with the departure of Lionel Messi, there are other fires to be put out. One of which has been Ilaix Moriba’s contract situation. The club and player remain far apart on agreeing on a new deal and Barcelona are getting frustrated.
Moriba has just one year left on his deal. Despite being one of the most promising names to emerge from the academy in recent years, he is not keen on the terms offered by them. On the other hand, Barca are standing firm that they will keep him away from the action if he refuses to sign a new deal.
All that has attracted attention from outside with the likes of Chelsea and RB Leipzig after him. It has come to the fore that Leipzig have had an offer of €6million rejected putting Chelsea in the front seat. Barcelona are expecting an offer of around €20m as they are tired of the whole situation. More speculation was fueled when Moriba was said to have been in London over the last weekend.

It’s hard to say what level of interest Chelsea have in Moriba currently. He is definitely an exciting prospect but Chelsea could try to wait out the season and then try to sign him for free next summer when is out of contract with the La Liga giants.
