Chelsea star agrees personal terms with West Ham ahead of transfer; medicals ongoing

Chelsea ace Kurt Zouma agrees personal terms with West Ham; medicals taking place

According to transfer news from The Athletic (subscription required), Chelsea star Kurt Zouma has agreed on personal terms over a move to West Ham. Medicals are currently taking place ahead of a €30m move.

Kurt Zouma’s Chelsea stay could be about to come to an end after seven seasons. The Frenchman has lost his place in the side for a while now and is more of a rotational option under Thomas Tuchel. West Ham were ready to offer him a way out of the club and had a long-standing interest in him.

However, any potential deal was being held up by Zouma’s increased wage demand of £125,000 per week. That would have made him the highest earner at West Ham. However, Chelsea are also very keen to let him go as he is not among the four regular defenders used by Tuchel. An additional reason is the pursuit of Jules Kounde which can be funded by the sale. Now, it seems Zouma’s move to West Ham is on track. Chelsea will pocket a decent €30m while Zouma gets his wage demands fulfilled. He will be signing a five-year deal with the Hammers and has agreed on personal terms. His medicals are being held in Paris and an official announcement might be on the cards very soon.

Perhaps it’s a move for the best. Chelsea get to offload Zouma and fund a move for Kounde. West Ham get a quality defender in their ranks to strengthen the backline. Lastly, the Frenchman will likely get more game time and be a regular in the side.
