Report: Serie A side ‘confident’ of signing forgotten Chelsea midfielder on loan this summer

Tiemoue Bakayoko could depart Chelsea before the end of this month

According to Calciomercato (h/t football.london), AC Milan are ‘confident’ of securing a move for Chelsea ace Tiemoue Bakayoko this summer.

The Frenchman, who joined Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2017, featured heavily for the West London outfit in his first season as he made 43 appearances in all competitions. However, the 27-year-old failed to feature for the Blues under Maurizio Sarri as well as Frank Lampard.

The midfielder instead secured loan moves to Monaco, Napoli, and AC Milan over the last three years with the latter keen on securing the player’s signature this summer. Bakayoko has also been keen on a move back to Milan since the start of the summer.

Additionally, the Italian outfit now look to be close to signing the 27-year-old this summer. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed on his official Twitter handle a couple of days ago that the midfielder could join the club on a loan move this summer. He wrote:

“AC Milan are getting closer to Tiemoué Bakayoko. New meeting today to reach an agreement with Chelsea after contract extended until June 2023 in order to complete potential loan move”.

Although Bakayoko has featured for the Blues during the pre-season, Thomas Tuchel is not too keen on keeping the player at Stamford Bridge, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t The Express].

Moreover, the Blues already possess the likes of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, and Mateo Kovacic in midfield while they could also pursue moves for the likes of Saul Niguez, Jude Bellingham, and Declan Rice.

Should the 27-year-old join Milan, this would be the club’s third venture with the Italian club this summer, after the San Siro club also snapped up Fikayo Tomori and Olivier Giroud earlier in this transfer window.
