Transfer News: Chelsea find new complication in Jules Kounde deal
According to transfer news from Marca (h/t Metro), Chelsea are set to be met with more complications in their pursuit of Jules Kounde. The problem for Chelsea initially was paying the release clause of €80m but if talks drag on, terms in his contract will mean that his release clause will keep increasing till the end of the month when it reaches €90m.
After securing the signing of Romelu Lukaku, next on the agenda for Chelsea is a new defender and Jules Kounde is the name they want. It’s hard to believe that Kounde is still just 22 years of age but has already established himself as a regular for Sevilla, helping them win the Europa League in 2020.
It is known that Kounde has a substantial release clause of €80m which Sevilla want to be met. Chelsea are struggling to come to an agreement due to that. One idea was to offer Kurt Zouma in a swap deal but that has also been thwarted by Sevilla. A sale for Zouma to West would have handed them some additional cash for the deal but that is also not working out. (h/t Metro)
As it stands, Chelsea are staring at an increased price for Kounde. His current release clause stands at €80m. However, there is a clause in his contract that increases that value as the end of the transfer window approaches. By the end of August, Chelsea could be staring at an expenditure of €90m if they go after him later in the month.

Sevilla are just ensuring that they can reinvest the money in case they sell Kounde. This clause could prompt Chelsea to ramp up their efforts to sign him earlier. However, with the Blues still finding it difficult to pay the initial release clause, it’s hard to see this deal being wrapped up in time.
