Chelsea told to shell out at least €120m to re-sign former attacking star

Transfer News: Chelsea will have to splash €120m for Romelu Lukaku

According to transfer news from Tuttosport (h/t Mirror), Chelsea will need to shell out a massive sum of €120m in order to bring back Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan this summer.

Lukaku had a not so memorable stint at Chelsea last decade when he was signed from RSC Anderlecht in 2011 but was farmed out on loan to West Bromwich Albion and Everton, whom he joined permanently in 2014 in a deal worth £28m.

The Belgian international developed into one of the most consistent goalscorers in the Premier League at Goodison Park and had a productive two-year stint with Manchester United as well, before he signed for Inter Milan in 2019.

Since moving to Italy, Lukaku has taken his game to a whole new level and enjoyed two prolific campaigns, the second of which ended with him leading the Nerazzurri to the Serie A title. He was in fine fettle at the UEFA Euro 2020 as well, even though Belgium exited the competition at the quarter-final stages.

Heading into the new season, Chelsea are intent on signing a new striker this summer after having lost Olivier Giroud to AC Milan while Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham face uncertain futures. Erling Haaland has emerged as the Blues’ favoured transfer target to bolster the attack, but a move is proving to be difficult due to his £160m valuation. (h/t Mirror)

As a result, Chelsea have now eyed Lukaku as a potential Plan B, considering that a deal has more realistic chances of happening due to Inter Milan’s precarious financial position. And, the Blues have now learned that any move to engineer a comeback for the Belgian to the Bridge would cost them €120m. (h/t Mirror)

More Chelsea News:

Lukaku has grown into one of the most accomplished strikers in the game since leaving Chelsea. A return to the club where he has unfinished business certainly sounds enticing. However, it must be noted that he has previously voiced his intentions about wanting to stay put at Inter Milan.
