Exit-linked Chelsea star’s future stance complicating pursuit of key transfer target

Timo Werner keen to prove himself at Chelsea; complicating Haaland chase

According to Eurosport, Timo Werner is intent on proving himself at Chelsea after a difficult debut season, thus complicating the club’s pursuit of Erling Haaland.

Werner arrived at Chelsea last summer in a big-money deal from RB Leipzig. The German international’s arrival came with a lot of hopes and expectations after his stunning goal-scoring exploits over the years with the Bundesliga outfit.

However, things did not work out as per plans as Werner struggled to find the back of the net on a consistent basis. While his all-round game improved with time, the 25-year-old was found wanting when needed to put away chances, missing several gilt-edged chances along the way.

As a result, Chelsea have entered the transfer market for yet another new centre-forward, with Erling Haaland emerging as a top target. The Norwegian has enjoyed a brilliant eighteen-month stint with the Black and Yellows and has proven himself to be ready for a step up.

Given his monstrous transfer valuation, though, Chelsea are hoping to offer Werner to Dortmund as part of a player-plus-cash deal. Any such move is likely to fall through because of Werner’s stance on his future. (h/t Eurosport)

The report claims that the former RB Leipzig superstar is intent on turning things around at Chelsea and proving himself as a success at the Bridge. Furthermore, the striker is not interested in signing for Dortmund, as he views it as a step-down. The only German club he would be open to moving is Bayern Munich.
