According to transfer news from The Athletic (subscription required), Victor Moses has finally called time on his Chelsea stint. The Nigerian winger joins Spartak Moscow in a permanent deal.
The winger joined Chelsea from Wigan Athletic in 2012. He went on three successive loan spells to Liverpool, West Ham and Stoke. It was only under Antonio Conte in 2016 that he found a regular run in the side.
However, that consistent run ended when Conte left the club in 2018. Moses also left on loan to Fenerbahce and also had spells at Inter Milan and Spartak Moscow. During his six years at the club, Moses made just 128 appearances, scoring 13 goals and assisting 18 more. (h/t Transfermarkt)
After nine long years, the 30-year-old is set to leave the club permanently (h/t The Athletic). Spartak have made his loan deal into a permanent one. He will sign a two-year deal with the Russian side after making 20 appearances for them last season.
It’s hard to gauge how well Moses did at Chelsea given that he spent so much time away from the club. He was afforded minimal chances to impress and could only flourish for the two seasons. Nonetheless, he became surplus to requirements at the club and they made the right call in allowing him to leave after close to a decade.
