Chelsea approached over stunning Stamford Bridge return for 30-year-old icon

Transfer News: Chelsea contacted over possible Eden Hazard return from Real Madrid

According to Spanish publication AS (h/t Metro), Chelsea have been contacted by intermediaries over a sensational return to London for Real Madrid winger, Eden Hazard.

The Belgian international left Stamford Bridge in 2019 after 7 years at the club and joined Los Galacticos for an £86m fee. But things haven’t gone to plan for him at the Spanish capital since then.

And the report mentions that Hazard ‘could be in line’ to join Thomas Tuchel’s men this season. However, there may be a few stumbling blocks in the way if any such deal is to be agreed upon.

Madrid are believed to be wanting a transfer fee in excess of £52m for Hazard. Moreover, the former Lille man is on a wage packet of almost £416,000-a-week.

Do Chelsea’s young guns need Hazard?

Those figures seem like a big gamble for any club considering Hazard will be 31 in January 2022 and has had a number of fitness issues during his time at Madrid.

Tuchel and Roman Abramovich are also said to be after a number 9 this summer. And that only makes sense, because the Blues are covered when it comes to Hazard’s side of the pitch.

Timo Werner, Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Christian Pulisic, and Hakim Ziyech are all capable of playing out wide in Tuchel’s frontline. Thus, it makes more sense for Chelsea to prevent such a reunion from happening.

Chelsea fans would undoubtedly love to have their club hero back, but at what cost? After all, it’s important to look after the finances and prioritize what positions the club wants to strengthen in the transfer window.
