Chelsea ready to slash asking price for 23-year-old English ace linked with London rivals

Transfer News: Chelsea ready to lower their £40m asking price for Tammy Abraham

According to The Sun (h/t The Mirror), Chelsea are ready to lower their asking price for out of favour striker Tammy Abraham this summer.

The English ace enjoyed an exciting breakout season under club legend Frank Lampard during the 2019/20 campaign. He has, however, fallen from favour under new manager Thomas Tuchel and rarely featured for the club since the German took over earlier this year.

It is no secret that the Blues are ready to part ways with the striker this summer. However, their asking price of £40m has so far proven prohibitive. Arsenal, Aston Villa and West Ham United are all keen on the player but are not enthused about meeting Chelsea’s asking price.

With no club biting, Chelsea are now ready to lower their valuation by at least £5m. The Blues have already sold veteran striker Olivier Giroud and Abraham looks set to follow. We are keen on bringing in Erling Haaland or Romelu Lukaku and selling Abraham for top dollar will aid that cause.

According to the report, slashing the asking price means Arsenal are now in the driving seat to land the player. Mikel Arteta is a fan of the player and is keen to take him to the Emirates. Alexander Lacazette’s future is uncertain and is in the final year of his contract. The Gunners view Abraham as a suitable replacement for the Frenchman.

London rivals West Ham United are also very keen on the 23-year-old. However, they are in no position to bid over £30m for his services. Whether the Blues will take another hit in their valuation remains to be seen.

While it is unclear as to just how high Villa will go, the player is familiar with the midlands club having spent the 2018/19 season on loan at the club. He scored 26 goals in 40 appearances as the Villians won promotion back to the Premier League. Whether a return to familiar hunting grounds is on the cards remains to be seen.

Abraham, for his part, is open to a move to the Emirates. The 23-year-old is seeking regular playtime, a prospect that is far from a given at the Bridge. Arsenal are not the powerhouse of old but remain an intriguing project that could provide the player with a pedestal to success. As long as Chelsea get what they ask for, no tears will be shed on him joining an arch-rival.
