Chelsea boosted in pursuit of top transfer target as Euro giants drop out of race

Chelsea handed Erling Haaland boost as Bayern Munich drop out of race

According to AS (h/t Express), Chelsea may have received a boost in their pursuit of Erling Haaland as Bayern Munich have switched their attention to Cody Gakpo of PSV Eindhoven.

One of the most in-demand forwards in the transfer market currently, Haaland signed for Borussia Dortmund in January last year and has plundered 57 goals in just 59 games for the Black and Yellows already. His exploits with the German outfit have almost every super club across Europe chasing his transfer.

Indeed, Chelsea have been hot on the trails of Haaland for a while now while the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United are also said to be keen. In addition, reigning and record German champions Bayern Munich are also said to be monitoring the Norwegian international, along with Real Madrid and Barcelona. (h/t Express)

Given Real Madrid and Barcelona’s financial issues, it is unlikely that they will be able to afford a signing of this magnitude this summer, while Manchester City have also been focusing on Harry Kane. And now, Bayern Munich also seem to have dropped out of the race for Haaland, having switched their attention towards PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo, handing Chelsea a major boost. (h/t Express)

Chelsea are in the market for a new centre-forward as Olivier Giroud nears an exit while Tammy Abraham has been out of favour under Thomas Tuchel. With Timo Werner failing to provide the kind of impact that was expected, it only makes sense that the Blues push for another prolific forward like Haaland.

Dortmund, though are expected to fight tooth and nail to keep hold of their star man. Contracted with the Black and Yellows till 2024, the 20-year-old is expected to command a nine-figure sum as a transfer fee. Nonetheless, Bayern switching their attention elsewhere is good news for Chelsea, as it means one less competitor in pursuit of Haaland.
