Chelsea make €100m approach for UEFA Euro 2020 winner; club decline talks

Chelsea approach Juventus for Federico Chiesa with €100m offer

According to Sport BILD’s Christian Falk on Twitter, Chelsea have approached Juventus with an offer of €100m for breakout star Federico Chiesa, only to see their overtures rebuffed.

A product of the Fiorentina youth academy, Chiesa is widely regarded as one of the most promising young wingers in Serie A. Having made a great impression with his boyhood club since breaking into the first-team in 2016/17, the 23-year-old signed by Juventus last summer.

Chiesa has signed on an initial two-year loan deal, which will be made permanent next summer. The Juventus star was one of their best performers in what was a dull season. Following on that, the 23-year-old was brilliant with Italy, helping them lift the UEFA Euro 2020 earlier this month, and was named in the Team of the Tournament.

And Chiesa’s displays at the Euros seem to have landed him admirers in the form of Chelsea. The Blues have a star-studded attacking unit as it is, with the likes of Christian Pulisic, Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi all options at the disposal of Thomas Tuchel.

However, it has been claimed that Ziyech and Hudson-Odoi could be on their way out this summer, which could open up spaces for someone like Chiesa to come in. To that end, the Blues have approached Juventus with a whopping €100m offer for the 23-year-old.

Chiesa showcased his unbridled talent at the Euros and would be a stunning addition to the Chelsea attack. Juventus, though, have declined to enter talks with the Blues, which is understandable as the 23-year-old is someone that they could build their team around. Whether Chelsea return with another proposal remains to be seen.
