Chelsea in advanced talks over player-plus-cash deal for 22-year-old star; contract agreed till 2026

Transfer News: Chelsea in advanced talks to sign Jules Kounde from Sevilla

According to reliable journalist and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are in advanced talks with La Liga club Sevilla for the signing of Jules Kounde. The Frenchman has already agreed personal terms on a deal till 2026.

Kounde arrived at Sevilla in 2019 and has swiftly established himself as one of the topmost young centre-backs in Europe. The 22-year-old helped the Spanish club win the UEFA Europa League in 2019/20 and finish inside the top-four in La Liga last season.

An imposing presence at the back, Kounde also possesses great ball-playing abilities and ground speed, making him a proper modern-day all-round defender. The 22-year-old also recently broke into the French national team and was part of the squad that failed to hit the heights expected at the UEFA Euro 2020.

Nonetheless, Kounde’s exploits with Sevilla have seemingly been more than enough to convince Chelsea to make a move. It was Romano himself who first broke the news about the Blues starting talks to sign Kounde earlier on Tuesday. And things have seemingly gone about very quickly since, as talks are now in advanced stages.

In fact, Chelsea are now ready to offer Sevilla Kurt Zouma as part of the deal, along with cash, in order to pull the deal over the line at the earliest possible. Romano also goes on to add that the 22-year-old Kounde has already personal terms on a deal till 2026 with Chelsea.

With both Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta well into their thirties, Chelsea needed some fresh faces in defence. And in Kounde, the Blues will be getting one of the best young centre-halves in Europe currently. At the same time, they will also be getting rid of a player who seemingly is not part of the plans.
