Competition for Chelsea as PL rivals launch €100m offer for 23-year-old transfer target

Transfer News: Liverpool launch €100m offer for Chelsea target Federico Chiesa

According to Italian publication La Repubblica (h/t Mirror), Liverpool have launched a massive €100m offer for Federico Chiesa, who has been linked with Chelsea. However, Juventus have knocked back their bid for the 23-year-old.

A product of the Fiorentina youth academy, Chiesa is regarded as one of the most promising young wingers in Serie A. Having made a great impression with his boyhood club since breaking into the first team in 2016/17, the forward signed for Juventus last summer.

Chiesa joined on an initial two-year loan deal, which will be made permanent next summer. The Juventus star was one of their best performers in what was a dull season. Building on that, the 23-year-old was brilliant with Italy, helping them lift the UEFA Euro 2020, and was named in the Team of the Tournament.

Earlier this month Sport BILD’s Christian Falk claimed that Chelsea were interested in Chiesa and had launched an offer worth €100m, only to be rebuffed by Juventus. It now seems like Liverpool too have suffered a similar fate following a similar bid for the Italian international. (h/t Mirror)

A generational talent, Chiesa has age on his side and should continue to get better from hereon. So, it should not come as a surprise that two of the biggest clubs in Europe have made offers to sign him up. At the same time, Juventus’ stance on the winger is also unsurprising considering how well he performed last season and at the Euros.

What now remains to be seen is if either Chelsea or Liverpool return with improved offers for the Italian international or whether this was just a one-off approach to test the waters.
