Transfer News: Chelsea remain interested in Miralem Pjanic
According to transfer news from football.london (h/t Daily Star), Chelsea are still looking to sign Bosnian midfielder Miralem Pjanic from Barcelona this summer.
Pjanic arrived at Barcelona only last summer from Serie A bigwigs Juventus in a deal that saw Arthur Melo move the other way round. However, the 31-year-old endured a forgettable debut campaign in Catalonia, struggling to make any sort of impact.
Indeed, Pjanic was hardly seen as a regular by manager Ronald Koeman, who preferred to use youngsters like Pedri and Ilaix Moriba more regularly over the ex-AS Roma and Juventus midfielder.
Given his situation, Pjanic has been heavily linked with an exit this summer, with Barcelona also said to be open to a sale, owing to their terrible financial situation. (h/t Daily Star)
And, it seems like Chelsea have shown an interest in securing the transfer of the 31-year-old Bosnian international. In Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho, the Blues have a top-class first-choice midfield trident. But with the loan departure of Billy Gilmour, a slot has opened up, which the club intends to fill.
Pjanic, to that end, has emerged as a transfer target. Barcelona’s willingness to cash in on the midfield misfit would make things easier to facilitate a transfer, the report adds.

It would help to have another central midfielder to cover for the trio of Kante, Kovacic and Jorginho. However, investing in Pjanic for that would not be the most sensible move considering that Chelsea already have the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Trevoh Chalobah who can do that job without the club having to spend a penny.
