Chelsea are ready to sell three players to fund Erling Haaland transfer
According to Norwegian journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft on ESPN FC (h/t Express), Chelsea are set to finance a deal for Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Erling Haaland through the sale of three first-team stars.
The Norwegian is one of the best young strikers in the world and has made scoring look effortless. Chelsea have been heavily linked with him all summer and it would appear the Blues are sharpening their swords to get the deal done.
Chelsea have already lost Olivier Groud and could also see Tammy Abraham leave the club this summer. This makes securing a top striker all the more important. Haaland heads the list of targets that also contains illustrious names such as Harry Kane and Romel Lukaku.
According to the report, an earlier proposal by Chelsea to sign the player was turned down by the Blues. The Londoners offered Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi and cash to sign the 20-year-old but it was of no avail.
The Germans were unenthusiastic about the offer but Fjortoft believes a deal could still be struck this summer. He believes the Blues can raise funds to complete the move by telling three first-team players namely Abraham, Hudson-Odoi and Hakim Ziyech.
“I still think there is a chance that this could happen.”
“If you have a look at them with Tammy Abraham, Hudson-Odoi, Ziyech – they will probably get, shall we say they will probably get half for Haaland in transfers fees from other clubs? Some desperate clubs at the end of the transfer period.”
It is a testament to Haaland’s potential that Fjortoft believes selling these three players would net Chelsea around half of what they need to pay for the Norwegian. Some players are, however, worth their price in gold and the 20-year-old is one of them.
Fjortoft, however, does question whether Haaland would move to London when teams such as Real Madrid and Barcelona are also keen. The Spanish giants are how ver not in a position to make big money moves and the Blues should ensure they get the deal done as soon as possible.

A release clause in Haaland’s contract kicks in next summer, drastically reducing his asking price. There is every chance that more clubs will be in the fray next summer. That makes it all the more important that we get the deal over the line this summer.
Adding Haaland to what is a promising Chelsea side brimming with experience and youth could be a gamechanger. After all, there are few players who possess the same goalscoring nous that the 21-year-old has.
