Transfer News: Chelsea could consider Danny Ings if Haaland move fails
According to The Athletic, Chelsea could potentially end up considering a move for Southampton striker Danny Ings in case a move for Erling Haaland does not materialise.
It is no secret that Chelsea are eyeing a summer swoop for Borussia Dortmund marksman Haaland. But, a deal for the Norwegian is proving to be difficult, with the Bundesliga club unwilling to consider a sale this summer. For them to change their stance, a massive bid will be needed.
So, Chelsea are seemingly looking at possible cheaper alternatives for the 20-year-old hitman and Ings could be an option for the Blues, the report claims. The England international has been with Southampton since 2018, having initially signed on loan before making his transfer permanent.
The 28-year-old has left behind his injury woes at Liverpool and enjoyed decent success during his time with the Saints. Now entering the final year of his contract, the Mirror reported earlier this month that Chelsea were keeping tabs on his situation after he rejected a new deal from the south coast club.
Now, The Athletic claims that the former Burnley and Liverpool forward could be an option for Thomas Tuchel & co., although it does not state whether the Blues actually hold an interest in securing his services.

Ings has managed to resurrect his career after his injury-riddled spell at Liverpool. However, whether he would be able to deliver the goals at a rate similar to what Haaland has been doing remains a question. Nonetheless, a proven Premier League striker in the final year of his contract, the 28-year-old could be an option worth looking at.
