Veteran Chelsea star undergoing medical at Serie A club ahead of €2million move

Transfer News: Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud having AC Milan medical ahead of move

According to a report by Sky Sports, Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud is having his medical at AC Milan ahead of signing a two-year deal with them.

The striker arrived at Milan’s La Madonnina clinic on Friday morning in order to start the formalities of completing his medical. The fee is believed to be around €1million upfront with a further €1million in bonuses relating to appearances and UEFA Champions League qualification.

This move will bring a three-and-a-half-year stay at Stamford Bridge to an end, and is the second signing Milan would have made this summer from Chelsea.

They have already sealed the £25million transfer of English centre-back, Fikayo Tomori, and may come back to London for more. The report mentions that they still have an interest in Chelsea duo, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Hakim Ziyech.

Au revoir, Olivier

It was time for the Blues to move on from Giroud. The striker turns 35 in September and despite being picked for France’s UEFA Euro 2020 campaign, is in the twilight of his career.

Timo Werner was ahead of him in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge under Thomas Tuchel. And it makes sense if the German wants to future-proof the attacking department with some new signings.

According to Football.london, Harry Kane, Romelu Lukaku, and Erling Haaland are three names on Chelsea’s shortlist. Any of those three names would be an upgrade on Giroud but it remains to be seen if Marina Granovskaia can get a deal across the line for a new striker.
