Agent issues an update regarding Chelsea pursuit of 30-goal Serie A star

Transfer News: Chelsea get update on the future of Romelu Lukaku

Responding to questions (h/t The Express) regarding the transfer interest from Chelsea and Manchester City in Romelu Lukaku, the striker’s agent stated that Lukaku is content at Inter Milan.

The Belgian international is one of two top targets for Chelsea in the No.9 position right now. Their eyes are fixed on Erling Haaland, while Lukaku’s potential Stamford Bridge reunion has also been a possibility.

But the latest comments from his agent would douse the fire to a large extent. Lukaku was sold by Jose Mourinho at Chelsea in 2014 to Everton, from where the Portuguese manager signed him at Manchester United in 2017.

“There’s absolutely no problem with Inter. Romelu is on holiday.”

Lukaku looks unlikely

The 28-year-old, like most players who took part in the UEFA Euro 2020, will join up late with his team to begin the pre-season training. He enjoyed a great season under Antonio Conte recently, where he netted 30 goals in all competitions to hand Inter their first Scudetto since 2010.

Frank Lampard splurged £45million on Timo Werner just last summer. But the German’s goal-scoring form, or the lack of it, has seemingly nudged Thomas Tuchel in the direction of a new centre-forward.

Lukaku or Haaland would be top signings for the Blues, but it seems like the former is set to stay at San Siro beyond this summer. Speaking to VTM (h/t The Express) just before the start of the Euros, the former West Brom striker himself stated that he wants to stay at the Serie A outfit.

“Yes, I am staying. I’ve already had contact with the man who normally becomes our new manager. Maybe I shouldn’t say that yet… but it was a very positive conversation.”

That man could quite possibly be Simone Inzaghi, the former Lazio boss who took over the helm at I Nerazzurri last month. It is understandable if the Italian manager wants his star striker to stay at the club for the near future.
