Roman Abramovich releases funds for Chelsea to sign Erling Haaland
According to German publication BILD (h/t Daily Mail), Chelsea are set to take the next step in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland with Roman Abramovich releasing funds for a move.
One of the most sought-after forwards in the game currently, Haaland signed for Dortmund in January 2020 and has taken the German footballing scenes by storm. The 20-year-old plundered as many as 41 goals in 41 games during the 2020/21 campaign, putting several top clubs on alert.
Manchester City and Real Madrid have shown an interest but it is Chelsea that have shown a greater desire to push for the Norwegian’s signing. The Blues are in the market for a new striker as Olivier Giroud gets set to leave while Tammy Abraham finds himself out of favour. (h/t Daily Mail)
With both Timo Werner and Kai Havertz not being prolific in front of goal last season, there is room for another top-quality addition. Haaland, to that end, would be the dream signing for Chelsea. And even though Borussia Dortmund have maintained that the striker is not for sale, a bid of £150m could force them into changing their stance.
And, the Blues are now ready to test their resolve this summer, with the report claiming that owner Roman Abramovich has made the funds available for them to push for a transfer.

At the same time, though, the Blues might have to sell some players as well – Hakim Ziyech, Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi are mentioned as three prospective exit-bound stars.
Having won the Champions League last season, it is important that Thomas Tuchel & co. take the next step and dislodge Manchester City from the top in the Premier League while defending their European crown. Someone like Haaland would go a long way in helping fulfil those ambitions.
