Transfer round-up: The four positions Tuchel wants to strengthen at Chelsea this summer

Transfer News: Thomas Tuchel wants to strengthen four positions at Chelsea

According to Football.london, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel and director Marina Granovskaia are interested in bringing a ‘minimum of four new faces’ during this transfer window in order to bolster four areas in the squad.

A striker, a right-sided defender, central midfielder, and a centre-back are all on the agenda. As for the centre-forward role, it seems like the area which could use some strengthening.

Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud are clearly out of favour with Tuchel and his preferred striker, Timo Werner, did not have an impressive goal tally last season. And that is why the club maintains an interest in Borussia Dortmund striker, Erling Haaland.

Chelsea’s search for a right-back to compete with Reece James is still ongoing. Inter Milan’s Achraf Hakimi was considered, but he is off to PSG now, and the Blues are now keeping a close eye on Adama Traore. (h/t Football.london)

In midfield, Declan Rice is a long-term target. However, West Ham United are poised to demand around £100million for him. Therefore, Julian Weigl and Marquinhos present themselves as viable potential alternatives.

The centre-back area is another area that can do with some additions. A number of Chelsea’s centre-backs are in the last year of their contract (h/t ESPN) and their back-five system is naturally more demanding in terms of personnel.

In light of that, the report by Football.london mentions that Raphel Varane of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich’s Niklas Sule, and PSG captain Marquinhos have all been linked with the club recently.

With the loss of Fikayo Tomori in this window, it would be wise of them to future-proof the defensive line. Only time will tell if the Blues are successful in landing targets for all four positions.

But even three of those areas sees new signings, fans would not have a lot to complain about and Chelsea would consider them as a contender in all competitions they participate in, if they don’t already.
