London rivals look to compete with Chelsea for 31-year-old Barcelona star

Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur look to rival Chelsea for Barcelona star Miralem Pjanic

According to Spanish outlet Diario Sport via TeamTalk (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur are looking to rival Chelsea for Barcelona superstar Miralem Pjanic, and have made an approach for him.

The Bosnian midfielder has been linked to Chelsea and a report from Le10Sport (h/t The Daily Star) earlier this week stated that the Blues could battle with PSG to sign Pjanic.

And the report cited above, via Football.london, states that Pjanic was also linked with the Blues during the last transfer window and that Fabio Parritici wants Spurs to ‘compete with’ the Blues this summer.

The news of the 31-year-old’s potential Camp Nou exit would come as a surprise to many. He only joined Barcelona 12 months back from Juventus, but it seems like he is already surplus to requirements.

The Blues do not lack quality midfielders as they have Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, and Mateo Kovacic to compete for two starting spots. But fitness and injury issues can hit us anytime, and thus, having good depth becomes vital.

The club has also sent Billy Gilmour out on a loan spell to Norwich City, leaving them a man short in midfield. Spurs’ interest in the player means that Tuchel and co should intensify their interest in Pjanic.

There is no doubt regarding the midfielder’s pedigree. He has tasted success at top clubs like Juventus and Barcelona. His experience could benefit the Blues in their search for trophies next season.
