Serie A side confident of keeping hold of prolific star despite Chelsea links

Transfer News: Inter Milan hope to keep Romelu Lukaku amid Chelsea interest

Speaking on his Twitch stream, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (h/t The Express) stated that Inter Milan are confident of keeping Chelsea transfer target Romelu Lukaku beyond this summer.

The Belgian striker left the Blues back in 2014 to join Everton. Since then, he has progressed at an alarming rate to become one of Europe’s most feared strikers.

With the Blues looking to sign a striker in the summer, Lukaku has been linked with a Stamford Bridge reunion. But Romano believes the Serie A side will keep hold of their Belgian star.

“The feeling at Inter is that Lukaku’s staying. After selling Hakimi I don’t see Inter selling another star this summer, unless there is a crazy bid.”

Lukaku reunion looks tough

This comes after Romelu Lukaku himself stated his intentions last month in a Twitter Q&A. When asked if he fancies a move to Premier League champions, Manchester City, he stated, “I’m happy at Inter”.

The Blues should look to sign a striker as they prepare for the season ahead. There are hardly any glaring gaps to be fixed in Thomas Tuchel’s UEFA Champions League-winning squad.

But the No.9 position is where they can add quality. Timo Werner was signed just last year but his goal-scoring form is not up to the mark in England so far.

Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham are finding starts very hard to come by under their new German manager, and a new signing could boost the Blues’ chances of realizing their Premier League dream under Tuchel.

Another striker persistently linked with Chelsea is Erling Haaland (h/t The Express). The Borussia Dortmund striker is one of the hottest prospects in Europe and signing him or Lukaku would be a massive statement of intent from Roman Abramovich.
