“In the lion’s den”: Chelsea star issues warning to club teammate ahead of Wembley showdown

Mason Mount issues warning to Chelsea teammate Andreas Christensen ahead of England vs Denmark

Speaking after England defeated Ukraine in the UEFA Euro 2020 quarter-final (h/t Football.london), Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount laid down the gauntlet to semi-final opponents Denmark, ahead of the showdown at Wembley.

England breezed past Ukraine at Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Saturday night, beating them 4-0 to cruise through to the final-four stages of the European Championships.

Mount, who had missed the past couple of games against the Czech Republic and Germany due to being in self-isolation, started and had a good game against ex-Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko’s side as goals from Harry Kane (2), Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson sealed the win for the Three Lions.

Up next for Gareth Southgate & co. is a challenge against a high-flying Denmark team, with the semi-final set to be played at home in Wembley. And, Mount, who will be facing up against Chelsea teammate Andreas Christensen in the contest, has issued a warning to him and the Danish team ahead of the blockbuster semi-final.

“I was on the bench and now it is a semi-final at Wembley and hopefully we can get to the final. That has always been our goal from the start and has been our focus.

“It will be a special day and there will be a few more fans there as well to create the atmosphere. You are in the lion’s den and you have to come and perform. We are obviously going to try and give our best.”

A win against Denmark, even though it will not be easy, will see England come face to face against Spain or Italy in the finals. With the Danes performing admirably after a difficult start to the campaign, Mount & co. will need to be at their best once again to ride past the challenge.

But, as the Chelsea star said, the atmosphere created by the fans at Wembley could put Denmark under pressure.
