“I ask myself” – Mourinho urges Scotland to start this Chelsea starlet vs England

Jose Mourinho praises Chelsea starlet Billy Gilmour and wants him to start against England

According to Metro, Jose Mourinho dropped some praises about Chelsea starlet Billy Gilmour and wants him to start for Scotland against England. The former Chelsea manager feels that the youngster is a similar talent to Spanish starlet Pedri.

The Scottish midfielder has found game time tough to come by under Tuchel ever since his appointment. He has been afforded only three Premier League games over the last season. With the likes of Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic playing week in week out, Gilmour has had to play the role of a deputy.

Nonetheless, he was called up to the Scotland side for the Euros. Gilmour was expected to play a starring role for Steve Clarke’s side. However, he was a surprise exclusion as Scotland lost their opening game against the Czech Republic.

Mourinho wants Gilmour to start against England

With Scotland set to face traditional rivals England in their second game of the tournament, Jose Mourinho has asked Steve Clarke to start the Chelsea man, hoping that he will have an effect similar to that of Spain prodigy Pedri.

‘I saw how difficult it was for Scotland to play from the back and to reach the midfield so I would ask if Billy Gilmour can’t give them more possession. I looked to Spain playing this youngster Pedri and I ask myself if Gilmour can’t give more to Scotland.’
