According to The Star, Chelsea academy graduate Izzy Brown could be on his way to EFL Championship this summer after he was released by the Blues.
Brown joined the Chelsea youth setup in 2013 from West Bromwich Albion as one of the most exciting prospects of his age group in the country. However, he managed just the solitary senior appearance for the Blues, spending the majority of his time with the club away on loan.
Indeed, the 24-year-old has had stints away at Vitesse Arnhem, Rotherham United, Huddersfield Town, Brighton & Hove Albion, Leeds United and Luton Town.
Brown joined Sheffield Wednesday last summer on loan with an option to buy. However, his time with the Owls was far from a success as he managed just 19 Championship appearances, failing to find the back of the net even once.
Following the end of the season, the attacking midfielder was supposed to return to Chelsea. But with his contract expiring at the end of this month, the Blues confirmed that Brown will be released along with six other players, including forgotten man Marco van Ginkel, veteran goalkeeper Willy Caballero, among others.
Set to be available on a free transfer now, Brown could be headed back to the Championship for next season. Indeed, as per the report, Preston North End are considering signing up the 24-year-old ace on a free transfer.
Brought in as a gifted talent, Brown has failed to fulfil the immense potential that he had shown in the early stages of his career. Hopefully, he is able to get his career back on track with his next club, whether it is Preston or some other side.
