Blow for Chelsea as 25-year-old transfer target set to sign extension with current club

Chelsea transfer target Niklas Sule set for Bayern Munich extension

According to BILD (h/t Football.london), Chelsea transfer target Niklas Sule is set to stay put with German champions Bayern Munich by signing a new contract.

The 25-year-old Sule has been with Bayern Munich since 2017, having signed from boyhood club TSG Hoffenheim. Till date, the German centre-half has gone on to feature 133 times for Die Roten bagging six goals and setting up three more, in the process winning four Bundesliga titles and a UEFA Champions League trophy.

However, Sule’s future at Bayern Munich had come under doubts this summer as he entered the final year of his contract with the record German champions, piquing the interest of current Champions League holders, Chelsea.

Chelsea are seemingly in the market for a new central defender in the current transfer window, which is understandable given that Thiago Silva will soon be turning 37 while Cesar Azpilicueta is also well into his thirties. With Fikayo Tomori also completing his transfer to AC Milan permanently, the Blues could do with a defensive addition.

Sule, as per the report, was one of the players that manager Thomas Tuchel was extremely keen on. However, a move for the German international seems to be off now, as the defender is set to sign a new contract with Bayern Munich.

Despite the development surrounding Sule, Chelsea are expected to press ahead with their pursuit of a new centre-back. There is interest in other players such as Jules Kounde of Sevilla while Edmond Tapsoba of Bayer Leverkusen is another player on the Blues’ radar. (h/t Football.london)
