Chelsea join PL clubs in the race for 21-year-old with £60m release clause

Transfer News: Chelsea join Arsenal and Liverpool in pursuit of Alexander Isak

According to a report by Spanish publication AS (h/t The Express), Chelsea are the latest Premier League club to enter the race to sign Alexander Isak in the summer transfer window.

The Swedish international has made a name for himself at Real Sociedad in La Liga. This season, he netted 17 goals, which has clearly alerted some of England’s big boys.

Apart from Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool have an interest in the former Borussia Dortmund striker. He is currently at the UEFA Euros 2020 with Sweden, where he is an important member of his national team.

The Blues already have Timo Werner, who was constantly played by Thomas Tuchel this season despite his average output in front of goal. But the Blues could do with some competition in that position.

Chelsea want Alexander Isak

According to Football.london, the futures of strikers Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham are up for debate. In such an instance, Thomas Tuchel should ensure that Chelsea are not short-stacked in the striker’s department next season.

Chelsea are also looking at Erling Haaland but the Norwegian hitman can prove difficult to get. Isak has shown his potential in Spain and is a regular feature for Sweden at the age of just 21.

The German manager would undoubtedly be looking to ensure that Chelsea don’t drop off after their Champions League success this season. And for that, strengthening the squad would be required.

The Blues can play Kai Havertz in the false-9 role as well, like Tuchel did last season. However, Isak offers a more natural option up front and apart from being backup to Werner, Isak could very well make the No.9 position his own.

But that would be a possibility only if the Blues sign the youngster, with his current release clause standing somewhere around £60million.
