Transfer News: Chelsea set for Man United battle for Caglar Soyuncu
According to transfer news from Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Chelsea are keeping an eye on Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu, who is also wanted by Manchester United.
Soyuncu signed for Leicester City in the summer of 2018 from German outfit SC Freiburg. After a season of bedding in, the 25-year-old has grown into a mainstay at the back for the Foxes, following the departure of Harry Maguire to Manchester United.
A regular for Brendan Rodgers’ side, Soyuncu did miss a stretch of games in the season gone by due to injuries. The Turkish international ended the campaign with a total of 32 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Soyuncu still has two years left on his current contract with Leicester City. And it seems like the 37-time capped Turkish international is set to be a subject of transfer interest from Manchester United as well as Chelsea, claims Konur.
Chelsea are in the market for a new central defender, with the need well justified. The Blues saw Fikayo Tomori complete a permanent transfer to AC Milan after spending the second half of the last season on loan with the Rossoneri.
In addition, veteran defender Thiago Silva will soon turn 37 and will need to be gradually phased out of the lineup while Cesar Azpilicueta is also not getting any younger. With Thomas Tuchel playing a three-man backline, stocking up in the central defensive department would be a good move.

A deal for Soyuncu, however, could be difficult to pull off considering his importance to the Leicester City side and his contract duration. In addition, Konur claims Man United have already scheduled talks over a move for the Turkish defender, making things more complicated.
