Chelsea set to offer N’Golo Kante a new contract

According to reputed journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are set to offer star midfielder N’Golo Kante a new contract as a reward for his performances.

Kante has been with Chelsea since 2016, having signed from Leicester City. In his very first season with the club, the diminutive midfielder won the Premier League, before winning the FA Cup in 2017/18.

The following campaign saw the Frenchman play an integral role in the club’s UEFA Europa League. He did not win any silverware in the 2019/20 season but lifted the big one in the campaign gone by, as Chelsea went on to win the UEFA Champions League.

And, Kante was crucial to the triumph, as put in Man of the Match displays against Real Madrid in both the legs in the semi-final as well as the final against Manchester City. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner ended the season with a total of 48 appearances in all competitions, setting up three goals for his teammates. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Kante’s current contract with Chelsea runs till the summer of 2023. Even though he still has two years left on his deal, the Blues are now keen on rewarding him with a new contract, claims Romano. The Italian also adds that the midfielder had a couple of offers to leave last summer, but he decided to stay put at the Bridge.

Romano also adds that there is no rush over the deal, with negotiations expected to start in the coming months as the relationship between Chelsea and Kante is great.

At 30, the midfielder still has a few years at the highest level left in him. And, ensuring that he spends those with Chelsea should be of utmost importance.
