Transfer News: Chelsea pondering over Jules Kounde move
According to transfer news from Express, Chelsea are pondering over making a move for Jules Kounde. The Sevilla starlet is in demand but the Spanish side wants offers in the region of £50million that Man City offered last season before signing Ruben Dias instead.
Chelsea are looking at defensive options, with some players like Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta at the twilight of their careers. Kounde is among the names being considered by the Blues and Tuchel. Adding a new defender has become a priority, with Thomas Tuchel switching to a back three.
Kounde has made a name for himself in the short while he has been at Sevilla. That has encouraged teams from all over Europe to keep an eye on him and clubs are trying to sign him. He was a central part en route to Sevilla’s Europa League win in 2020.
The 22-year-old French defender has a £69million release clause. However, Sevilla director Monchi is open to a lower price in the region of £50million. Last season, City offered that amount for Kounde before signing Ruben Dias. Monchi will not sell the player for any less meaning Chelsea are still pondering over such an expensive outlay.

With Tuchel switching to a back three, it does make sense to go after at least one new centre-back. Refreshing the defensive options ahead of next season might be a very good idea. In Kounde, they will get a player they can rely on for years. While the price tag is by no means a small amount, they could be getting their money’s worth in Kounde.
