Chelsea to battle Tottenham for this promising Italian starlet

Transfer News: Chelsea to battle Tottenham for Leonardo Spinazzola

According to transfer news from Express, Chelsea are all set to face competition from Tottenham over the signing of Leonardo Spinazzola. The Italian full-back has impressed in the last two games for Italy in the Euros and could be the subject of a tug of war between the London sides.

It seems as if the Euros is living up to its name as we are seeing new stars emerge almost on a daily basis. One such name is that of Leonardo Spinazzola. The Italian full-back started the tournament in a bright fashion with a MOTM display against Turkey.

Another similar performance against Switzerland meant that Europe’s leading clubs were now taking notice. An ultra attacking full-back, the Roma man bombed forward at the drop of a hat and aided Italy’s attack. He did not forget his defensive duties though as the Swiss failed to trouble Italy.

Chelsea are hoping to revamp their full-backs this season. Marcos Alonso and Emerson are set for exits. That means the Blues are looking at Spinazzola to fill the gap. Given his attacking nature, one can’t help but feel he can be a good fit for the wing-back role under Tuchel.

Nonetheless, they will face competition from their London rivals as Spurs are also after the Italian. Paulo Fonseca’s possible appointment could play a huge part as both worked together at Roma.

Spinazzola’s stock will only rise further as Italy booked their place in the round of 16. He will get more chances to impress and that will likely shoot up any asking price Roma have in mind. However, the Italian looks the real deal and Chelsea should try to push for his signing.
