Chelsea blow as European giants plan contract extension for talented 18-year-old target

Borussia Dortmund to extend the contract of Chelsea target Jude Bellingham

According to German outlet BILD (h/t Football.london), Borussia Dortmund have decided to extend the contract of midfield prodigy Jude Bellingham amid transfer interest from the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool among others.

A product of the Birmingham City youth academy, Bellingham made the switch to Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2019 for £25m, turning down a number of English clubs while doing so. Since moving to Signal Iduna Park, the 17-year-old has made huge waves, quickly establishing himself as one of the brightest young midfielders in Europe.

Indeed, Bellingham ended his first season with Dortmund making 46 appearances, becoming a mainstay in the middle of the park, from where he scored four goals and set up four more. (h/t Transfermarkt)

On the back of his stunning form with the Black and Yellows, the teenage midfielder also broke into the England national team and is part of the roster for the UEFA Euro 2020. Such rapid progression hasn’t gone unnoticed with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City, all keeping tabs on his progress, along with Chelsea.

However, it seems like Chelsea, along with the rest of the suitors will be dealt a blow in any hope of signing Bellingham.

Dortmund are hoping to offer the midfielder a new contract when he turns 18 later this month. Having handed him a three-year deal when he signed last summer, the Germans are hoping to add two more years to his contract.

While Chelsea have plenty of options in midfield, adding a generational talent like Bellingham is a no-brainer. At 17, the midfielder is showing immense quality at the highest level and should only get better from this point. However, Dortmund are certainly doing everything to ensure that he stays put at Signal Iduna Park.
