Tuchel wants to sign this 35-year-old La Liga legend for Chelsea

Transfer News: Thomas Tuchel wants Sergio Ramos at Chelsea

According to transfer news from Express, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel wants to sign Sergio Ramos. The Blues are looking at the Real Madrid captain as an alternative to Raphael Varane.

The 35-year-old’s departure will bring to an end what has been a trophy-laden 16 years at the Santiago Bernabeu. During this time, he has made 671 appearances, scoring 101 goals and making 40 assists (h/t Transfermarkt). He has won all there is to be won during that time.

With his contract expiring at the end of the month, an extension does not appear to be anywhere in sight. With his relationship with club president Florentino Perez in tatters, it would appear Ramos’ time in the Spanish capital is nearing its end.

Chelsea are in the market for a new central defender. While it was Raphael Varane who has been linked earlier, Chelsea manager Tuchel has now focused his attention on Sergio Ramos. The Real Madrid captain will be a free agent at the end of the month.

Ramos may not be a spring chicken anymore at 35 but he is a ferocious presence on the pitch. His leadership qualities are to behold and Chelsea can bring in the player on a short-term deal to add to their defence. As Thiago Silva has shown, age could be no bar if the player can adapt to his surroundings.
