Chelsea lining up a move for 26-year-old Spanish international

Transfer News: Chelsea eyeing a deal for Saul Niguez

According to transfer news from Daily Star, Chelsea are keeping tabs on Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez. Thomas Tuchel is keen on bolstering his midfield ahead of the new season. Liverpool and PSG are also said to be after Saul.

The 26-year-old has been a key part of Diego Simeone’s stellar Atletico side the past few years. His role in the side has somewhat diminished this season, making him seek a new challenge elsewhere. He made 41 appearances in all competitions as they won the La Liga title this season. However, of his 33 appearances in La Liga, only 22 have come as starts.

Much like the rest of Europe, Atleti are feeling the pinch of the pandemic in a financial sense. They are in a position that would require them to sell players first in order to sign new ones. It has been said that the midfielder who won the La Liga this season, is looking for a new challenge elsewhere.

Chelsea want Saul to bolster their midfield

Chelsea have just wrapped up one of their best seasons. Nonetheless, work for next season cannot stop as Thomas Tuchel will dip into the transfer market. One area he is looking to add to is the midfield. To do so, he is looking at Atleti’s prized asset Saul. However, Chelsea are not the only side after Saul as Liverpool and PSG have also shown interest.
