Man United superstar backs N’Golo Kante for Ballon d’Or

Man United star Paul Pogba backs Chelsea ace N’Golo Kante for Ballon d’Or

Speaking with Eurosport, Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has backed fellow countryman and Chelsea superstar N’Golo Kante to win the Ballon d’Or after leading the Blues to the UEFA Champions League triumph.

The 30-year-old Frenchman has enjoyed a stellar 2020/21 campaign. Be it under Frank Lampard or his successor Thomas Tuchel, Kante has been a key member of the Chelsea side and put in some stellar displays, especially, towards the end of the season, playing an integral role in the Blues’ success.

Indeed, Kante put in Man of the Match displays in the Champions League semi-finals against Real Madrid, in both legs, before absolutely dominating the Manchester City midfield in the finals of the main event in Porto, with another MOTM performance.

Following his stunning end to the season, calls for Kante to win the Ballon d’Or have been mounting among the fans. And Pogba, who has been an ever-present alongside Kante in the France midfield for years now, has backed the claims, insisting that the diminutive midfielder is deserving of the accolade.

“What I would like to say to the whole world is that the ‘NG’ we have seen in recent months has always been the same. We talk a lot about his performances but he has always been as good as ever. I said a long time ago that it would be appropriate, if Chelsea won, for him to win the Ballon d’Or. It would be deserved too.”

Kante has been with Chelsea for five years now, having arrived from Leicester City in 2016. During his time at the club, the midfielder has won a Premier League title, an FA Cup, the UEFA Europa League and now the UEFA Champions League.

A strong showing with France in the upcoming Euros would well and truly put him as the favourite for the Ballon d’Or award.
