Chelsea keen on signing this 24-year-old Europa League winning star to bolster the defence

Transfer News: Chelsea show interest in Pau Torres

According to transfer news from Football.london, Chelsea have shown interest in signing Pau Torres. The Blues are planning to sign a new central defender and the Villarreal defender is one of the names they are considering.

One would be lying if they said Chelsea have not shown a good deal of defensive expertise this season under Thomas Tuchel. The switch to a back-three worked wonders as Chelsea looked notoriously hard to crack open in England as well as Europe.

The likes of Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have been imperious at the back. However, Chelsea could be in a spot of bother with the likes of Silva and Azpilicueta ageing. Christensen and Rudiger are rolling into the last year of their contracts.

In this scenario, it makes sense to go for a young and promising centre-back. They are doing so as they have made their interest known in Pau Torres. The 24-year-old is coming off an excellent season that saw his stock only rise. He was also named as a part of the Spanish squad for this summer’s European Championship.

Torres also gave a good account of himself with Villarreal’s Europa League winning campaign. At just 24, the Spaniard still has time to reach his peak. Chelsea would be wise to invest in the defender as he looks to have a bright future in the game.
