“No time” – Thomas Tuchel explains the major difference between managing Chelsea and PSG

Thomas Tuchel explains the difference between managing Chelsea and PSG

Thomas Tuchel has opened out on some of the key differences in managing Chelsea and his former side, PSG (h/t Football.london). The German was sacked by PSG in December last year, only to be hired by Chelsea within the next month.

Chelsea looked directionless by the end of last year under Frank Lampard. Their league form had gone for a toss despite a huge spend on star players last summer. Somehow, it felt Lampard was not being able to make the best use of the resources available to him.

By the end of January, the former Chelsea icon was sacked and Thomas Tuchel was appointed within a few days. It would be an understatement to say that Tuchel has done a fantastic job. He has completely changed the fortunes of the club. They are in the semifinals of the Champions League, finals of the FA Cup and in with a shot to finish in the top four.

However, he did open up on certain differences of managing Chelsea and PSG.

“To go from Ligue 1 to the Premier League? It’s brutal, honestly. Very brutal. In France, we played the same number of matches, two cups and there are also 20 teams in the Championship. But the intensity and challenge of the Championship are really very different here. It’s a completely different level.

“It’s pretty ruthless, it keeps you on your own and it makes you get up early in the morning. There is simply no time to breathe. There is not too much time to sit down, to be relaxed or comfortable. And that’s a good thing, it sharpens your mentality and mind. That’s what I find impressive in this club.”
