Thibaut Courtois sends classy message to Chelsea after loss

Thibaut Courtois has sent a classy message to his former side Chelsea after they beat Real Madrid (h/t Metro). The Belgian shot-stopper claims that he is rooting for the Blues in the final against Manchester City.

Chelsea provided an excellent display against Real Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final. Their 2 goals on the night meant that an aggregate score of 3-1 was enough to send them through to the final where Manchester City wait.

For large parts of the game, Chelsea kept Real Madrid on the back foot and had it not been for some wasteful finishing, the home side could have won by more than five goals. Real Madrid also made some chances only for Edouard Mendy to pull out the stops.

There were two former Blues in the Real Madrid starting XI and after the loss, with Thibaut Courtois being the one in goal. While there was an acrimonious departure from the keeper in 2018, he did send a message of support for his former side in the final.

‘Chelsea is a great team and I had some amazing years here. Nothing has really changed. I obviously wanted to win tonight but now we didn’t I will be supporting them in the final. I have plenty of friends and former teammates here so I only wish them the best for the final and I will be routing for them.’

It is poised for an all English final after Manchester City made their way for the first time. Chelsea will be hoping for another repeat of 2012 when they lifted the trophy. Given the way the last two games panned out, it would take a brave man to place his bets on a winner.
