According to Metro, Real Marid defender Raphael Varane has been ruled out of the Chelsea game. Real Madrid have confirmed the same, citing that he has an abductor injury and will miss the crucial second leg of the semi-final in the Champions League.
Things were already looking bleak for Madrid at half-time on Saturday when they went to the dressing room with the score tied at 0-0. But their problems were compounded by the fact that Zidane had to sub off Varane due to an injury.
Nacho replaced the Frenchman at the start of the second half. Los Blancos scored two late goals, courtesy of Casemiro and Eder Militao, to seal a 2-0 victory and put the pressure on Atletico Madrid and Barcelona in the title race.
The Frenchman was an important presence in the side without Sergio Ramos. He played through the first leg as Real held Chelsea to a draw. However, he will miss the game on Wednesday though the injury sustained against Osasuna.
‘After the tests carried out today on our player by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he was diagnosed with an injury to the right abductor muscles.’
Even though Sergio Ramos is set to return from his own injury problems, he will be playing for the first time in weeks. Nonetheless, the likes of Eder Militao and Nacho have been in decent form and they will be expected to step up. Real Madrid will need to force a goal through if they are to win the tie as Chelsea have an advantage due to the away goal.
