Leicester City suffer major injury blow ahead of huge Chelsea clash

Leicester City boss offers team news and injury update ahead of crunch Chelsea showdown

Speaking to reporters on Monday (h/t football.london), Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers confirmed that Jonny Evans will miss the fixture against Chelsea due to an injury.

The Northern Irish defender suffered from a heel injury that saw him miss the games against Newcastle and Manchester United. However, the 33-year-old was rushed into the starting XI in the FA Cup final against Chelsea.

The decision backfired and Evans hobbled off with an injury before half-time. And now, Rodgers has revealed that Evans will not be available for the trip to London on Tuesday.

“Jonny [Evans] won’t play in the game, he’ll struggle for that. We’ll see what he’s like for next weekend, but he won’t be involved tomorrow.”

No Evans for Leicester

The Foxes could also be without Turkish winger Cengiz Under, who is ailing with a hip issue. Apart from that, the likes of Jamie Vardy and Youri Tielemans will make the trip.

“There’s nothing to report at the moment, it’s only the second day after the game. But we’ll see how they are. The only other one is Under, who’s struggling a little with his hip. We’ll see if he can be available.”

The Blues go into the game against Leicester on Tuesday knowing that losing is not an option. With Liverpool lurking just behind them in the table, failure to get anything at Stamford Bridge could be catastrophic.

Thomas Tuchel’s men have 64 points from 36 games so far, which is just two points behind third-placed Leicester in 3rd. Jurgen Klopp’s Reds, meanwhile, are on 63 points and would be looking to pounce on whoever loses in West London on Tuesday.
