“Have a full picture”: Chelsea boss Tuchel clarifies his transfer approach ahead of summer window

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel clarifies his transfer approach

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has clarified how he approaches transfers via profiling and suggesting names to the board (h/t Mirror). The German manager spoke about how he looks for profiles of players instead of individuals but admitted to suggesting names for transfers to the board.

Tuchel has done a good job in the four months he has been in charge of Chelsea. From being outsiders for qualifying into the Champions League, Chelsea have managed to secure the same on the last day (albeit with a little help from Tottenham). Lest we forget, the Blues are also in the Champions League final and are in with a shot at winning the trophy.

Tuchel gives his insight on transfers

However, when Tuchel joined the club, he hardly had time to get any transfers done. The coming summer transfer window will be the first time he will get a say in the transfers of the club. He gave a bit of insight into the thought process he has while going into transfers.

“I want to be a coach and I’m so happy to be a coach here. I don’t want to get involved in all the things that are needed to have a transfer. I clearly give my opinions, I’m asked my opinion, I have an opinion, I suggest names, I listen to the scouting, listen to the loan department, and then we have a full picture.

“And this picture will be adapted many, many, many times during holidays [summer]. It will be adapted during pre-season because it has to be because of developments: hopefully not injuries, the wish for some players to exit.”

Another interesting take he gave on conducting transfers is how he looks at specific profiles instead of individual players. After that, the name is finalized along with the group and the board.

“But in general I have ideas of profiles. What profile can help us. Profile of characteristics of players, what kind of skills do we need for this team to improve, and then it’s an open talk. It’s a group who decides it with me, scouting and the board.”

More Chelsea News:

It is understandable that Chelsea did not have the best of league campaigns. There were a lot of new names and it took time to figure out the best possible XI. Nonetheless, one huge test remains in the campaign and then Tuchel can sit to think about transfers for next season.
