According to Daily Star, Chelsea are still undecided on the future of Malang Sarr. The youngster will return from Porto after his loan deal comes to an end but the club are still not sure as to whether he will be a part of the first team or not.
Chelsea signed the 22-year-old defender on a free transfer from French club OGC Nice in the summer but loaned him out right away to FC Porto. While he did start on a bright note at the club and even was a part of the XI that knocked out Juventus in the Champions League round of 16, he has not featured much in the league games.
So far, he has played just 8 Liga NOS games and started just 5 of them. In the Champions League, he started 4 of the 9 games. Only in the Taca de Portugal has he been given some full games. His involvement reduced to the point where he was sent to the ‘B’ side.
Now with the season entering its closing stages, he will be returning to Chelsea and then his future will be evaluated. However, with Chelsea already having a settled unit of defenders, it is unlikely that Sarr will get into the XI right away. The Blues are also looking at defensive targets like Raphael Varane.
It could be the case that Chelsea might look for another loan deal for the French youngster as he hasn’t really flourished this season. He does have a contract that runs until 2025. However, it is clear that he might not be slotted straightaway into the first team.
