Revealed: The mammoth prize money won by Chelsea after UCL final triumph over Man City

Chelsea pocketed healthy prize money after their UCL final win vs Man City

According to football-coefficient (h/t football.london), Chelsea have pocketed worth more than £95million in prize money after their UCL final triumph over Manchester City.

The players are also set to share amongst them a pool of £10million bonus that was agreed to at the start of this season. This sum would have been £5million if they lost, and the money will be shared between all squad members.

A total of 24 players were used by the Blues throughout the campaign, and players such as Tammy Abraham and Tino Anjorin who appeared only in the group stages will also pocket some amount, albeit lesser than the key squad players.

The final against Man City on Saturday was one of Chelsea’s two greatest nights in Europe as they added another UEFA Champions League trophy to their cabinet.

Money talks

The 1-0 scoreline at full-time did not tell the whole story of the game. Chelsea dominated the proceedings and were immense at the back once they took the lead in the 42nd minute.

A slick pass by Mason Mount found Kai Havertz’s run and Chelsea took the lead in grand fashion in front of their fans at the Estadio Do Dragao in Porto. The win pocketed the club £3.45million extra in prize money from what they would have earned had they lost.

The total prize money, however, excludes the money from UEFA’s market pool, which mainly includes the TV and broadcasting income. It currently stands at £250million and Chelsea are set to pocket 10% of that season due to being a Premier League club.
