“You want quality”: Chelsea urged to sign title-winning goal-machine in the summer by ex-star

Chelsea urged to sign Romelu Lukaku by former star Joe Cole

Speaking to the Sunday World, former Chelsea attacker Joe Cole has claimed that the club should go after Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku in the summer transfer window.

Lukaku had a not so memorable stint at Chelsea last decade when he was signed from RSC Anderlecht in 2011 but was farmed out on loan to West Bromwich Albion and Everton, whom he joined permanently in 2014.

The Belgian international developed into one of the most consistent goalscorers in the Premier League at Goodison Park and had a productive two-year stint with Manchester United as well, before he signed for Inter Milan in 2019.

Since moving to Italy, Lukaku has taken his game to a whole new level and enjoyed two prolific campaigns, the second of which ended with him leading the Nerazzurri to the Serie A title.

Alerted by his progress, Chelsea are now said to be keen on signing the striker this summer. And Cole has backed the club to go for the Belgian, insisting that he and Timo Werner can both co-exist at Stamford Bridge. (h/t Sunday World)

“If Lukaku is available for the right price, I think Chelsea would take him. He’s one of the top strikers out there. For me, there is space for Lukaku and Werner at Chelsea because they both offer different things. You want quality players in and around the box because if chances come their way, they will take them.”

“You need options to win titles. City need (Sergio) Aguero, (Kevin) De Bruyne and (Ilkay) Gundogan… they all offer something different and that’s why City are so tough to beat.”
