Chelsea in the race to sign Barcelona star after cryptic social media message

Transfer News: Chelsea in the race for Miralem Pjanic

According to transfer news from Mirror, Chelsea are in the race to sign Miralem Pjanic along with PSG and Bayern Munich. The Bosnian put a question mark on his Barcelona future with a cryptic social media post as the above mentioned three clubs are now vying for his signature.

The 31-year-old is a product of Metz’s youth academy. After stints in France with Metz and Lyon, the midfielder headed to Italy. It was at Roma that he truly established himself as one of the best technical midfielders of the game.

Juventus came calling in 2016 and he did not hesitate. He spent a successful four seasons at Juve, which were filled with trophies. However, last season, he moved to Barcelona in a swap deal that saw Arthur Melo head the other way. While he did win the Copa Del Rey, it has been a largely underwhelming season for the midfielder.

Despite enduring a sub-par campaign with Barcelona, interest in Pjanic remains high. At least three elite European clubs including Chelsea are after the midfielder. The Blues will have to fend off interest from the likes of PSG and Bayern Munich for his signature. Pjanic also put his future up in the air with a post that indicated he could be heading for an exit from Barca.

“This season leaves me with a bitter taste & questions that still need answers.”

Chelsea are looking to add to their midfield stocks with the likes of Declan Rice, Julian Weigl and Pjanic being targeted. Nonetheless, Chelsea might want to reconsider going after the latter option given that Pjanic is coming off a tough season and is also 31 years of age.

Pjanic may still have those qualities that make him a good midfielder but Chelsea would be better served in looking at younger and long-term options.
