Points deduction a possibility for Chelsea after major brawl with Leicester City at Stamford Bridge
A report by The Mirror mentions that Chelsea are facing a possible points deduction for their role in the 20-man brawl at Stamford Bridge against Leicester City on Tuesday.
The two teams collided in a heated Premier League match that would have a big impact on the top 4 race. With the Blues leading 2-1 in injury time, things got out of hand.
Ricardo Pereira tackled Ben Chilwell, which irked Antonio Rudiger. The German defender got involved in an altercation that included up to 20 players and officials from both sides.
In the aftermath, it was revealed that the FA has charged both the Foxes and Chelsea for failure to control their own players and officials in an orderly manner. But the Blues are in the firing line because of repeat offences.
Could the Blues have points docked?
Chelsea were warned to have their points docked in 2016, two months after their infamous clash with Tottenham Hotspur, when the Blues wanted to appeal their £375,000 fine for the incident.
Since then, the report mentions that the Blues have been charged twice with similar offences, taking the tally up to 11 in the last 11 years. And this is why the possibility of points deduction looms large right now.
A former FA employee with knowledge of the disciplinary process has even gone on to say, “It seems there’s an issue within the club”. With Chelsea in a top 4 race, this has the potential to define their season.
