Chelsea touted to sign £126million-rated Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix

Transfer News: Chelsea and Manchester City cited as possible destinations for Atletico Madrid ace Joao Felix

A report by Spanish outlet Todofichajes claims that Chelsea are one of the possible destinations for Joao Felix, who has asked to leave Atletico Madrid in the summer after holding talks with his agent.

Felix has reportedly become unhappy with his treatment at Los Rojiblancos where he has been regularly benched by Diego Simeone in recent weeks. He has no issues playing for Atletico but does not want another season on the bench.

In light of that, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Paris Saint-Germain are all clubs that could make a move for him. But those teams would not be willing to pay north of £80million for the Portuguese.

That would, of course, be a huge loss to Atletico who signed Felix for £126million from SL Benfica in the summer of 2019 as a replacement for the outgoing Antoine Griezmann.

Could Felix be a good investment?

He has a total of 39 total appearances this season but has still asked his agent to listen to offers. And despite his ‘slow performances’ and high fee, Felix has a good reputation amongst top European clubs. (h/t Todofichajes)

Chelsea could really do with the talent and skills of someone like the 21-year-old Portuguese striker. Timo Werner, Tammy Abraham, and Olivier Giroud are simply not doing a good enough job.

But things may get complicated as City are also involved in the race to sign Felix. The Citizens will see Sergio Aguero depart in the summer which would leave a big void to fill up front.

However, so much money for a youngster that has scored just 19 times in his 75 games for the Spanish club seems to be a little too much. (Stats Credit: transfermarkt)
