Chelsea boosted their chances of securing a top-four finish in the Premier League as the Blues came back from a goal down to defeat Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

Raheem Sterling had given the Cityzens the lead late in first half but Tuchel’s Chelsea rallied after the break as Hakim Ziyech equalised after the hour mark before Marcos Alonso completed the turnaround in stoppage time to bag valuable three points.

Speaking after the game, Tuchel singled out Timo Werner for praise, for his performance on the night. The German attacker, who has had to face a lot of criticism this term due to his finishing, played a crucial role in the win as he set Alonso up for the match-winning goal.

Prior to that, there had been frustrating moments as Werner had strayed offside to spurn great opportunities. But he kept at it and produced a game-changing moment late on. And it is this ‘relentless’ nature that Tuchel hailed.

“In the last week he’s really adapted well to the situations. The way he works he’s relentless. He really wants it and I am very happy with his performance today.

“He was really, really working hard up front. It was so important, he gave them a hard time with all these runs. ‘Once he had chances he had them pretty exhausted, so no complaints.”

Werner, despite his difficult debut season in England, has produced a tally of 12 goals and 14 assists across all competitions. The German international is constantly improving and there is no doubt we will be able to see the best of him next season, if he continues to keep working like this.

As for Chelsea, the win means we are now third in the Premier League table, opening up a six-point lead over West Ham United in fifth.
