Transfer News: Chelsea receive blow in Romelu Lukaku pursuit
According to transfer news from Metro, Chelsea have received a huge blow in their pursuit of Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian striker has expressed his desire to remain at Inter Milan after their historic title win. It comes as a body blow to the Blues who were hoping to re-sign their former attacker.
Lukaku has been in sensational form for Inter Milan since joining them in 2019. He has led their successful title charge this season with his goals. The Belgian has formed a deadly partnership with fellow striker Lautaro Martinez. Lukaku is no stranger to Chelsea given he spent three years at the club.
However, he couldn’t score even once. He spent the second and third years of his Stamford Bridge career out on loan before leaving permanently for Everton. Lukaku then moved to Manchester United in 2017 and despite decent numbers, he was let go to Inter, where he has resurrected his career. He has scored at a fantastic pace there, with 61 goals in 92 appearances.
Chelsea had narrowed down Lukaku as a solution to their forward woes and as an alternative to Erling Haaland. Nonetheless, the Blues have been handed a setback. The striker has been a central part of Inter Milan’s historic Serie A triumph and he wants to stay at the club.
‘I am so happy for all the Inter fans in the world, for the team, the staff, the president and everyone. It was a wonderful year for us, I am truly proud to play for Inter. I wanted to come out here and celebrate along with the people. I told my friend this was the best way to experience it, to be there with the fans. For me and many of my teammates, this is our first league title, so it’s a moment we wanted to share with them. Last year was good too, but yes, this was the best of my career. ‘It’s wonderful and I hope to continue like this. I want to thank everyone, I am truly so happy.’

While this does not really mean that he has ruled out a move to Chelsea. A transfer could still happen if Chelsea splash the cash and Lukaku is willing to return. It won’t be easy though, especially after Inter’s title win.
